WILD COAST · THE ITINERARY

Along the coast,
one day at a time.

From Port St Johns to village homestays, discover the first two days of the journey.

DAY 01

Port St Johns to Mngazana Village

Distance
±16.7 km
Walking time
±7 hours
Terrain
Undulating hills and soft sand

Our adventure begins in Port St Johns—and the challenge starts from the first step!

The trail weaves through village paths, across hillsides overlooking the ocean and along stretches of beach. Expect demanding climbs and steep descents, with soft sand adding to the effort along the shore. It’s a challenging opening day, with coastal views to enjoy along the way.

Our homestay for the evening offers beautiful sea views. With a little luck, we may even spot whales or dolphins offshore.

DAY 02

Mngazana Village to Mpande Village

Distance
±10 km
Walking time
±6 hours
Terrain
Hilly, mostly inland

After a demanding first day, Day 2 brings a welcome change of pace. It’s the shortest and perhaps the easiest day of the hike, though the hills still call for some effort.

We follow a mostly inland route, stopping for lunch at Sinangwana Beach before continuing towards Mpande Village.

Once we’ve settled into our homestay, there’s time to explore the beach and enjoy a slower end to the day.

Less screen time.
More green time.

A LITTLE PREPARATION

Before you lace up.

A few good habits for your next day outside.

Choose a trail that fits

Check the official route information, access requirements, distance and terrain. Choose a hike that suits everyone in your group.

Pack the essentials

Bring water, food, comfortable footwear, sun protection, a warm layer, rain protection and a charged phone. Longer or remote routes need more preparation.

Keep an eye on the weather

Check local forecasts and trail notices before leaving. Let someone know your route and expected return time.

Leave it as you found it

Stay on marked trails, carry your rubbish out and give wildlife space. Respect the people and places you visit.
